Historically Boring?! - Gladiator - Movie Review Discussion - The Film Impact 04


This Week on The Film Impact we watched Gladiator ithe 2000 epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson. The film was jointly produced and released by DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures. It stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed (in his final role), Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, and Richard Harris. Crowe portrays Hispano-Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, who is betrayed when Commodus, the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor. Is this movie fun for someone who doesn't love the history?

Now that Google has announced their game streaming service, and Microsoft has one right around the corner, does Nintendo need to look ion that direction? This is what Dave and Jonny discus. Further consideration goes into whether or not Nintendo should team up with Google to do this. They could make that work, but what would that do for the future of Nintendo hardware? Does all this mean that individual platform hardware will be gone in a generation or two? Will high speed internet be widely available enough to support this? If so, in how long? What will Google be announcing at GDC 2019? Do they have a brand new 4th Console?

Dave and Jonny dive into their predictions about Google's new console. Dave went in thinking it would be a full console box, but Jonny might have changed Dave's mind. Will this just be a streaming device using Project Stream? If so, are those without great internet screwed? Maybe! Jon definitely thinks so. Further, will this console be less than $150? If not, neither Jonny or Dave think it will sell. Final prediction for Jonny is that this console will end up being dead in a very short amount of time.
